Hunger
Many of my clients struggle with weight loss due to factors beyond calories in/calories out, such as hypothyroidism, toxin buildup, dysbiosis, and more. However, if after addressing these issues you still can’t lose weight, appetite and total calories must STILL be addressed. I see many patients with uncontrollable cravings and appetite issues. While factors like candida, low cortisol, low dopamine and hormone imbalances contribute, you still need to manage your basic appetite after resolving these issues.
Reflect on when you learned to immediately satisfy your hunger or eat until you were over full. For myself, childhood headaches and pregnancy led to habits that aren’t necessary anymore. Hunger can be beneficial, and fasting can help build willpower and metabolic flexibility. I just completed a 24-hour fast and I’m feeling great despite hunger. I’m not perfect, but I’m on this journey with you, and you can manage your appetite too!
Note: Consult your provider before fasting if you’re a child, pregnant, or have type 1 diabetes.
